We’re so excited to announce a big change for the Sheffield Shuffle this year; we’re going beyond leading and following! The Lindy Hop streams won’t have the option to sign up as a lead or follow, just as a dancer. We’ll be doing some switch dancing, focusing on the connection to your partner and the music and dancing beyond a role! Our wonderful teachers (Trisha Sewell, Hung Jie Hsu & Earanee Niedzwiecki ) will make sure everyone feels welcome and engaged, whether you’re a seasoned switch dancer or it’s your first time stepping out of your normal role.
Both Lindy streams will be taught by both teachers and the shag stream will have Hannah & Ali teaching all day. Please pick the stream that best reflects you. If you aren’t sure please ask a local teacher you trust or contact us with any questions.
Lindy Hop
The streams for Lindy Hop are split based on your understanding and use of the following concepts:
Tension, Connection, Musicality, Rhythm, Momentum, Partnership, Groove, Voice in dance
The split is NOT based on:
How long you’ve been dancing, how many weekenders you’ve attended before, how many moves you know
Think about the skills listed: are they something you want to learn or play with? Swappers will be more based on learning the skills whereas Exchangers will be playing with the skills
Shag
This stream is for improver/intermediates, you'll need to be able to do the basic in open, closed and transition between positions in a social dance.
Socials
Dance the night away in our three socials, two with live bands (Tessa Smith and the Applejacks on Saturday and Nicola Farnon on the Sunday)
