After last year’s resounding success, we’re switching it up again in Sheffield, with a springtime twist! Our focus this year is on growing and branching out your dancing style, and shuffling in wider influences to bring a new, fresh enjoyment to your dancing—just like the renewal of spring—all while continuing our tradition of going beyond leading and following. Whether you’re a confident switch dancer or this is your first time exploring another role, there’ll be an opportunity to develop your musicality, connection and self-expression, allowing your dancing to beautifully bloom!
Our teaching line-up for our Lindy Hop streams is Trisha Sewell, Hung-Jie Hsu & Jeff Tong, with both streams taught by all three teachers. Our Shag stream will be taught by Hannah & Ali all day. Pick the stream which you feel best reflects you, and feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
(We’ll also have Bruce & Jane visiting for an Aerials workshop on Sunday!)
Lindy Hop
Our Sapling stream is aimed at less confident dancers, while our Blossom stream is for those more confident. This split is not based on how long you’ve been dancing, how many weekenders you’ve attended or how many moves you know! Instead, the split is based on your understanding of the following concepts:
- Tension
- Connection
- Musicality
- Rhythm
- Momentum
- Partnership
- Groove
- Voice in dance
As stream names suggest, Sapling will focus more on the groundwork for these skills, while Blossom is about development and exploration of these skills.
These streams will be focused on switch dancing, however we encourage you to sign up honestly as the role you’re most comfortable with. We’ll be able to then pass each stream’s distribution onto teachers to assist expectations.
Shag
This stream is aimed at improver/intermediate Collegiate Shag dancers. You’ll need to be familiar with the basic steps in both open and closed, and be able to transition between these positions in social dance.
Socials
Never stop grooving with our three socials, all with live bands! We’ll have Tessa Smith playing on Friday, Sheffield University Big Band on Saturday and Nicola Farnon on Sunday.
There’ll also be an afterparty following the Saturday social to keep the fun going into the night!
